I wanted to share this link i had found today, i have known it existed just didnt know the name, it is an organization and maybe you all have heard of it. They ask for photogs to volunteer their services to take pictures of Premature babies and sometimes with their families depending on the situation, particular for families of children that are born so early their chances of survival is minimal. Many times these families just can't afford a photographer and the type of pictures professionals can provide really help to aide in the healing of a passing infant.

I guess this program has a special place in my heart as my youngest spent a month in NICU and even though she was there her little 4lb body looked chubby compared to the other babies there and infact one did not make it :(

Susie--It is a great organization. I was area coordinator for NILMDTS a few years ago and had to leave my volunteer position because I just didn't feel that I could do it justice with my time conflicts. It is an organization that deserves so much and it is truly worthwhile. We did several sessions at the hospitals and it was really life-changing to work with these families in a most difficult time. If you are looking for a photography-based charity, it is wonderful to be a part of it. We switched to a different charity organization where we would be able to be more available at certain hours of the day because we couldn't be there and I wanted to be able to give as much as I could.

I met Sandy Puc a few years ago--she is one of the founders of NILMDTS and is so awesome. I highly recommend that you get in touch with Courtney Lambert or talk to Scott and become a part of it.

We loved our time with the organization and actually heard from one of the moms the other day--we photographed her one-year old daughter and the nurses were sure she wouldn't live to the end of the month. Well, she did survive and has a lifetime care-giver and is doing fairly well. It was so different to hear good news instead of actually being in the room when the little one is passing away. You have to really put on a brave face and yet be there for them. Then I would just go home and cry for a few hours.

Let us know what you decide--it is a wonderful thing to do for these families, for sure.
