Tomb of the Unknown Slave - St Augustine's church - Faubourg Treme, New Orleans
Updates for those who wonder:
Except for some chores and the little bit of downtime I permit myself, all of my energy is geared towards my photography work in one way or another.
Now that the exhibit at the Cressman is up, the opening is in the past and I have had a week to try to collect my thoughts I am on to new things. I thought I'd get a bit of a break but as usual everything takes longer than expected, nothing is easy and there is no rest in sight.
I am already involved in a number of discussions regarding the circulation of SIGNS OF LIFE as a traveling exhibit. More on this when some details are known.
Planning is already underway for multiple visits to New Orleans: First and soon, a short trip geared towards establishing a place to live and work from when there. Second, a visit to set up the workspace and continue with parts of the ongoing projects. Third, a scheduled shooting visit the last part of October and into mid-November geared towards new work. And, fourth, plans for a series of extended stays beginning in early January 2009 and running through Carnival season until sometime in April, 2009. After that I plan to return to the Louisville area and sit still for awhile.
Meanwhile I will be going to New York City sometime in the next six to eight weeks to follow through on another opportunity. I was recently invited by the owner and the curator of a photography gallery to meet them to discuss representation. This means I am also busy looking through 40 years of work. I am selecting from available silver prints as well as scanning and doing some inkjet printing of additional sample images for them.
Right now I have a lot of "chores" to catch up on: cleaning, straightening and organizational work to do around the studio not to mention the outdoor chores all around the property. Tomorrow I head to the National Forest area near Paoli to see my old friend Andy Mahler. Monday a contractor is coming here to deal with a few small projects that were impossible to schedule until now.
I have another old friend coming in from Chicago to visit around the time of the August 1st Trolley Hop and the free showing of Royce Osborn's All On A Mardi Gras Day at the Cressman Center Gallery. I hope some of you will be able to attend, it is really a great film and has been difficult to find since it first aired on PBS in 2004.
The next day my friend and I are supposed to try to get to Cincinnati for an opening of paintings by another friend at the Semantics gallery and sometime during his visit we are supposed to be planning his stay with us in New Orleans and our mutual visit to Ponce, Puerto Rico.
Everyday, some new unforeseen or unexpected things seem to turn up. In fact I have to do some of those things right now.
