I was going to post my tutorial on how to remove mime's from pictures at the park in order to make them family-friendly. Now, I don't know. I will have to think about it. Instead, I might upload my set of Lame Mime Actions that add invisible walls a…

Did you just tell people to bring their own recliner?

I can get you guys some mimes that you can use as furniture. Whatever you do, don't tip them or make eye contact. They immediately go into invisible phone booth mode and start making calls to nobody. Really annoying. But they make great foot rests!

ABOUT ME:
I got into photography because I always like to see things and I was like, hey, I should see things all the time. You know like a really good bowl of corn flakes or some naked person who didn't see you outside their window. No offense to Stevie Wonder but I like seeing, but I can't play the piano, so I don't have a choice. So I started photographing everything and it was easier than just drawing everything that i saw like I had been doing before. Crayola crayons are not made in China so you have to pay a premium if you want to color like a big dog. It is a little known fact that children in the Philippines are dynamite at mixing crayon wax, but I can't swim that far for a freakin box of crayons. Photography is cheaper and easier. When they come out with digital crayons I might switch back. So, photography is my passion. Well, really, imported grains are my passion, such as fonio, triticale, or millets. Domestic grains just don't pack the same pop, ya know. It has to do with the quality of weevils in third world countries. I read in National Geographic that their excrement adds a cinnamon flavor that can't be gained by adding cinnamon. But after that, photography is my passion.

Next week is National Moose and Squirrel Appreciation Week. Please be nice to Bullwinkle, if you see him.

Children lost in the jungle heed my warning. That toucan won't take you to your parents. He will only lead you to flavors of fruit.

For the record, I would like to state that I ain't latest or the greatest. But I am always learning. Like a freakin alien cyborg with little scanner thingies zippin around and green cellular fuel tanks all bubbling. Or maybe like a Vulcan with less pointy eyebrows. It's hard to say really. But I am me and you are Robert De Niro in Awakenings (1990, starring Robin Williams) all drooling on yourself saying "Learn from me. Learn from me." And I am staring right back into that drool with my clipboard going, "Nano. Nano, my friend. Nano. Nano." (at this point, you should be moved to tears). I think I am trying to say that I am always learning, and I am not particularly bothered by drool (unless its really stringy).

If you are a I-do-not-photoshop-because-I-believe-true-photography-comes-through-the-lense kind of person, please stop abusing drugs and hanging out with art hippies. Also refrain from using this weak excuse to hide your poor computer skills and limited understanding of digital photography. There is no such thing as a photo that isn't edited in some way. You cannot translate film to paper in the darkroom without some type of manipulation. And digital... well... we all know the magic you can (or can't?) do there. Just because someone is using photoshop does not mean they are 'fixing' their photograph. There is no limit to digital... unless you set one. Also, you could argue shooting jpg and not editing in photoshop is lazy since you let the camera do the processing. If you shoot RAW, you manually oversee all of the processing that would have been done in the camera, and are able to produce higher quality images by far, if you know what you are doing. Can I get an amen, brothas and sistas?

If I haven't embarrassed myself or the people around me today, then I haven't woken up yet. Give me time.

If anyone asks, 'film' is something that creates a ring in the bathtub. Nasty.

I really do like coffee:

IF YOU CAN'T HAVE THE SHOT YOU LOVE, PHOTOSHOP THE SHOT YOUR WITH.
IN WHAT PART OF LOUISVILLE ARE YOU LOCATED:
Our studio is in Middletown. My house is in Lyndon. I am right here. What are you asking? I don't have time for this. I have to make some more coffee.

Short and Sweet Dodge & Burn or PS Paint w/Light

I'm killing time while uploading some wedding images, so I thought I would show an example of a technique that I use. I've been experimenting with a few actions that I made for dodging and burning and/or "painting with light" in photoshop. Basically, I paint depth into objects to give them more feel. It works on skin to great effect if you are careful.

The image below is the original image. For the final, I put my d/b on it. I also added a texture to the wall behind, liquified the bride's body… Continue

Recycling

When I am shooting, I like to try new things, especially after I nail the old things. If I am focused correctly, often times, I will think in "photoshop mode" and consider how I might tweak the image later. Sometimes, I can't see it. When I shoot something and "yono" my LCD and think maybe it didn't work, sometimes I move on instead of working it out better. More times than not, those images do not make it in to the "raw selects" folder to get further editing and retouching. But, sometimes I sif… Continue

Engagement Session Downtown

Michelle and I usually shoot weddings together and she usually does the engagement sessions. However, we occasionally branch out and each shoot our own weddings on the same day. I photographed Erin & Jon today and they were a lot of fun. They are getting married in August at Gardencourt. I'll be photographing them while Michelle photographs elsewhere.

Here are a few quick grabs from today's session. I still haven't gone through and processed it.

This Blog is Currently In Cuba

I was going to post a mini tutorial but since this blog is in Cuba, it isn't legal to exchange intellectual property. Instead, I present an okay shot from a wedding last year. Complete except for the details of what was done. At this size it is difficult to see the wall texture in the final, but its an inverted cracked concrete so it is sexy. I shall summarize, liquify, desaturated, textured, darkened, brightened. Whew. Where is my "that was easy" button?

This Blog is Going to Cuba!

Okay, none of you guys post blogs anymore. Not unless your mom bakes you some cookies and you want to share (the pics and not the damn cookies!). So, since Charles and I are the only ones with very many recent posts...

We are hijacking this motha! Now get on the floor while you read this and shut your mouth! (If you can't see the monitor from the floor, just climb up enough to peek, if you have a laptop then great)

This Blog is going to Cuba. I want everyone to take a chill pill. Nobody moves,… Continue

Thanks, Meagan, but my claim to fame is truly my sock drawer. It is more than socks, t-shirts, and underoos. It is a transcending blend of splendiferous apparel whose artistic arrangement is not just striking or compelling, but stirs deeper human emotion through the beauty of its armholes and legholes. And that is what I want on my tombstone. Pizza. I like pepperoni, too.

Hey Shane, have you thought about taking coffee photos(film, not digital) and developing them in Caffenol C? i bet someone's already thought of that, but I wanted to suggest that to you.

Dont lie, you know you still have hooker friends. And they do go both ways, from what i heard. Did that shot look too Garretty or am i expanding on my style. I did kind of "brand" myself with the whole nightshot thing, but im moving past....slowly. Your not the first person to make a comment like that (about the garage shot).
