I am trying to sign up a friend for some photography lessons in the Louisville to Bowling Green area. She is mostly into landscape and nature photos but is limited by her knowledge of her D200 camera and some of the techniques. I don't know enough to show her much more. Any good leads on classes that would make a good Christmas gift?See More

Hey Nick, nice to meet you! Wish I could tell you more about the Beattie 4x5, but mine isn't in working condition. Most of the innards and controls are gone, and it didn't even have a film back or viewing hood with it. I bought it strictly for Through the Viewfinder stuff, though, so none of that mattered to me (though if I had been able to shoot film with it, that would have been nice!). Everyone I've talked to about it suspects it was a studio portrait camera. I'd guess it could have been used for studio product photography as well. But due to the size and focusing on it, it doesn't have much focal range.

There's a guy selling one on ebay right now (buy it now asking price is $200, though you can make an offer as well). His has the hood and some film backs and wires and whatnot. He might know more about it:
