First of all, I LOVE this site Ryan, I can't thank you enough for creating it. However, the new layout to create space for advertising (I'm guessing) to me makes the first impression of LPC look ... well ... very dull and boring.  I liked how - before the transition - member's newest photos was the first thing you'd see. Now, it just looks like some sort of photography chat room/discussion board.

That's my two cents, just curious to hear what other members think....

Ryan's probably off photographing scantily clad guys somewhere, so I'll answer for him...because he told me why he did it. He said he doesn't want to moderate the site. And so to keep prospective "photographer-seeking" clientele from being ran off by risqué pics, he tucked them all behind a handy dandy "Photos" tab....and unfortunately everybody Pics else's too. I think it would be better to have a Risque' tab, or some other 'checkbox' filter that an uploader would check to automatically filter their uplads from the general population area. To be blatantly honest, as a former porn addict, I really don't care to see a nude chick thrown at me upon arriving at the site. Nothing wrong with nude chicks but that should be my choice, not somebody else's. That's the biggest part of why I disappeared from the site for almost a full year. But by the same token, seeing all the recent photos when arriving to the site is huge and makes LPC stand out among photography forums, in my opinion. So what if you give non-paying user a little bit of free exposure on the main page. A borring interface won't draw prospective clientele the same way a bunch of pics will.

Having said all that, I think Ryan deserves a pat on the back for the job he's done so far.

Kinda has a vibe that actual photography has taken a backseat to discussion ...
Every time facebook or a social networking website changes it annoys the hell out of me because we have to go searching for all the features that we used to know exactly where and how to find with the old format. But then we all get used to it and quit complaining.

In any case, LFN uses this new format and I too liked the old one better. So I am saying this from the POV of someone who has used a ning in another forum this way and find the old LPC easier to navigate.
how much of a problem was nude photos? I think I've seen 1 since I joined, I don't like the new layout and have already noticed it's cut my visits to the site drastically because I can't just throw up the page and see people's photos. Yeah it's just a tab click away but I often check the site at work or doing random things so I don't feel like going threw the trouble. I'm just saying I'm prob not the average person but lets say I checked the site 20+ times a day and that was cut into 3-5 so how much will it cut other visits or even new people coming in who just think it's just another small forum that only has a couple forum topics.
I love seeing everyone's photos when i come to the site too, but i agree that although i don't mind nude portraits one bit if done tastefully. Sometimes however my daughters are in the room with me and in fact my 12 year old is really showing an interest in photography so for that reason i do very much appreciate that i can come to the website with my kids in the room and not have to keep it on my "radar" and look over the pictures when they aren't right behind me.

Many of the websites I visit have a check the box option about inappropriate content. That's poster dependent to some extent, but it still leaves Ryan catching the oversights. I'd think it would be manageable nonetheless.
I've seen maybe two nudes in the time I've been on here, I haven't seen where that's a problem. Perhaps in the future, keep nudes appearing from the homepage (?) ...

This site's main subject is photography, shouldn't it be the first thing someone sees on the homepage? With the new layout it feels like the site's name should be "Louisville Photography Discussed." I mean no disrespect to Ryan, I also think he's done a great job with the site. I just think the new layout has lost its "pop."

Like Casey, my visits to the site has greatly diminished as well with the new layout...
Glad to hear you kicked your porn habit Charles .... Now if we could just get you to kick that damn pantyhose fetish! ; )

You have no room to talk Don....you took mynpantyhose home with you. And I don't want to know about them!

LPC NOW ISN't quite what LPC was 'then'. More users were chiming in and there were more nudes. I've never said anything because I don't want to impose my belief system on what makes somebody happy. It's called 'respect' but unfortunately it doesn't appear to be mutual. It's not that big a deal but there's money in numbers, and if content keeps the numbers down one way or another....well, you do the math. I know of a few people that have boycotted or completly abandoned the site because of said content. But there should be a way to automate the moderating of content.

I'm saving them for auction on E-Bay Charles when your legacy and name in photography reaches even higher levels! ; )
I think people in the US are way too uptight about mammary glands.

I once worked in a bookstore and while Playboy and Maxim were kept behind the cashier's desk, photography and art books with nudes were on the shelf in reach of children.
