Remember when people's word was their bond? I've attempted to hire 2 photographers from this site recently.

People who want to be photographers from this site and AGREE to a job should show up on time or NOT blow me off because something else came up!

This is the advice I got from the person who blew me off....

"I'm sure if you post something in the LPC you can get a second shooter pretty easily.   Perhaps you should make it clear the being on time is
paramount or pay will be reduced might help you not get someone lazy or
slow.
"

I just don't understand it....

What the hell?
Maybe you should make it clear that being on time is paramount?
When is being on time NOT important for whatever you are doing?

I say you post names...
I'll give these people a chance to explain why their word is irreverent...

Actions have consequences....

Many years ago, I got my first photography job. It was as a Multiple Listing Service (MLS) photographer.

I had given notice for my job to go back to college for photography. My last day of work was Saturday, school started Monday.

The new job called me on Friday morning (day before my last day) and said I HAD to start on SATURDAY or they would hire someone else! I told them I had given my word and I would have to check with my old boss to see if he could cover me and I would get back to him. He said I might lose the job.....

My boss said SURE, TAKE THE JOB!!!! I called the new boss and worked for them for 7 years.

My how times have changed....

You'll "give them a chance to explain"???
Who the heck are you Ron? I didn't see much evidence of said professionalism from you during short time I was involved with you. I saw plenty of evidence of anrrogant, rude and extremely overbearing individual with defective temper control.

On more that one occasion you invited yourself over to my house so you could "train me". I finally relented and had you over my house. You trained me and gave me your blessing with "you'll do fine". But when I finally arrived late at the shoot after working a full 8 mandatory hours on Saturday, I thought your bulging eyeballs were going to explode eyeball gel all over me and my equipment. You proceeded to behave the rest of the evening like a very fussy two year old that was badly in need of a diaper change. At no point during my encounters with you up to this point and during phone calls was I impressed with any 'professionalism' from you. In fact I didn't see any at all!

Professionalism includes "honesty" Ron. When you splatter on a public forum that 'I never called before showing up late'....when in fact I called you twice before showing up, One of those calls before I was even late at all, doesn't illustrate professionalism or honesty.

What I got out of the deal is a shock-course on how sad it is when an individual get's so full of themself and erroneously believes that they're God's gift to anybody within earshot. What part of this bitch-session post is professional Ron? Talk is cheap and you have a long way to go in your personal development before you have anything valid to say about 'professionalism', at least on a 'one on one' basis.

Hey Erica,

Did you agree to work for Ron and then email him / call him to let him know you could not?
What's the harm there?
I really do not see the problem here.
Erica said she could, then notified Ron that she could not make it after all.
Pretty cut and dry...
I know this is going to sound super random but ron doesn't happen to be the photog most of the high schools hire to shoot their football games is he?
Hmm. I've hired a lot of photographers and assistants through LPC and never had a problem.
You get what you pay for Jacob.....you called Ron out right off the bat when he posted his $100 offering. I took the gig for the experience, not the pay. Pay will come later when my skills are honed. Right now for me it's about gaining the skills.

Ron knew my skill level when he agreed to hire me. So why the bitching and moaning when a $100 photographer doesn't come through like a $500 photographer? I guess this is the level of professionalism that I'm supposed to be aspiring to?

To see more Ron Burgis professional diplomacy in action.....see this thread, and his non-response:

So Charles, same question as Erica. Did you tell Ron you would shoot it and not show up?
What's the story here?
Dude, didn't you read anything in this post or the one I linked to? Yes I showed up.

This is not a professional rant. Professional rants end with a signature and a logo. Amateur.
