The Next Meet-Up.....Let's have some sort of theme that's not tired and worn out, eh?

The nice weather is on the way. I wouldn't mind doing another night-shots event when it warms up a bit. But I'm just wondering if anybody has any ideas they're wanting to pursue. I'm thinking of Saturday, Feb. 13th for a possible date. Some people don't care about shooting buildings....so another possibility is that some of us might even take turns modeling for the others. Granted, I'm nothing to look at but it beats shooting a tree. I do however know of a few good looking trees. Hmmm.
At any rate, OK...so you can shoot a building. But can you shoot the building with somebody in the foreground and have both properly exposed? It's time to hone those skills. This is obviously aimed at the junior members...you know, the ones who would actually show up to a meet.

I'll get the ball rolling with Feb. 13th. The rest will be filled in by the interested party. Once general interest refines the meet-up specifics then an 'event' will be posted.

Also, there seems to be enough interest at this point. Suggestions of locale might be a good idea. One of the first meets was at the Bon Air branch of the LFPL. That's a possibility although not the most exciting possibility, unless the topics were maybe lighting and modeling, or something along those lines. If that were the case, the first person that comes to mind is Master Nikon Lightsmith: John Adkins. I think it would be cool to have a few words offered not only on Speedlites/Speedlights, but on studio strobes as well. I could bring in my 1600ws Interfit kit unless somebody prefers to bring in AlienBees. This could go on forever from lighting-metering-triggering-etc.

Rosemary, I didn't have any one individual in mind when I said that. I love all LPC'ers.....even Yono. I don't want to make anybody feel bad or guilty, certainly not you, but it would be a big deal for some of the newcomers if the more established types showed up and shared a few tips. Brittany, can you book one more? I always wanted pics of me snuggling with a German/Viking/Swedish chick. :)
Should I go? ... I don't know if I'm pro or not. Yeah, no can do on Valentines Weekend for sure. Moving it will definately increase your turnout.

John if you go are you going to bring a whole bag of speedlights for the whole class?
I don't mind bringing my AlienBees but unless there's going to be a Sweedish Bikini Model, I'm not getting all that crap out.

HAHAHAHA!!!!

Rosemary, I adore you! We still have to take that bull ride!! Someone told me the homeless man was trying to put change in my cleavage. Was that true???

Want me to show up in my Halloween costume, Charles???? HAHA!

Wow...that's bad Brittany.....pay all the money for a vacation and have no memory of it, but hey, you have a pocket full of booze receipts for your scrapbook! The stories continue to live on. :)

But what you wear?....this could get complicated...somebody's going to have to dress up as a Swedish bikini model in order for Joey to bring his lights. :)

But seriously, I don't mind bringing my Interfit set. It's simple without a lot of extra controls. They will cover the basics just fine, unless the basics aren't enough for somebody that feels the need to discuss lighting in more detail.Either way.

If somebody would rather the meet head in a different direction then you might want to speak up. There's a few possibly interested in lighting but not sure about the whole interested party.
It wasn't reeeeaaaallly vacation, and I promise, there were not a ton of booze receipts. Haha. I was on the phone when the homeless man came up to us!

As for Swedish Bikini model?? I vote Ryan... Or Rosemary.

I would much rather see a "Workshop" than a "Class".
More of a hands on kinda thing.
Everyone bring whatever lights etc... and folks can just bounce around and try new stuff.
As for where to do it, we just kinda need a big indoor area. The library was fine, but would be crammed.
Also, I vote for weeknights.
I really like this idea and since I am so new it would give me a chance to get to know everyone.

I'd be up for something too, just not Valentine's weekend. I would prefer not a weeknight, but if that's what everyone would settle on, I can live with it, but I won't be hauling out a bunch of gear, 6:30 am comes to early for me.
Hell, I may even show up! As long as it doesn't conflict with school.
OK.....I think I see a need for two different events in the near future. The Bon Air library branch meeting room was a bit cramped and inconvenient for a lighting workshop(LW) last time. There seems to be a number of people interested in a LW. Unfortunately for the non-weekenders, the best time for such an event is on a weekend. It's something that I think deserves proper planning and the acquiring of an open-spaced facility that can comfortably host 20 or 30 people and and their lighting paraphernalia. Therefore, I think it's best to treat the LW as a secondary event for the time being and move forward with a Nightshots event. That may not suit some but there will be the LW soon that day-types can turn to, if that's the case. What does everybody think of sometime in March for the LW? That gives a few weeks to hopefully avoid scheduling conflicts. As far as subject matter for the LW, I'll be willing to explain the Canon Speedlites, the St-E2 Transmitter and even bring all my Gary Fong diffuser and let anybody try them out.(Take that Shane!!)

As far as timing for a Nightshots event....why not make it near the anniversary of the first Nighshots event? It was Feb 25th last year. It doesn't have to be that date but maybe near it. The specific date can possibly be picked out by group consensus maybe?

Having said this, this is just ideas. If anybody thinks they have a better idea or suggestion then please feel free to speak up.

For those interested in reading, here's links to last years to Nightshots events. The comments appear to be running backwards. Maybe I need to click a filter or something. I don't know.

I love the idea of a lighting workshop-- and am totally stoked that some of you are willing to share your knowledge!

I am in totally still in the early stages of learning about lighting... and only bought my first Speedlight like a month ago.

So, if the date works out.. I'd love to meet some of y'all!
