My mom sent me an old camera i used to play with when i was like 10 :O  it is a Pentax K1000 and the light meter wasn't working the last time i used it ( i can't believe I remember it not working) and ofcourse i dont have a battery lying around that will work with it. Anyway I am wondering if there is anywhere i can get it fixed, if i even can?

hello, back in the day, those K-1000's were real workhorses for an entry level SLR. they are fully manual and it should still work fine even if the meter is broken. if that is the only problem. you'll just need some sort of external meter, a handheld, or even possibly use your current dslr to determine the exposure and setttings for the K1000.

if you put in a new battery and it still doesn't work, check the battery contact points for corrosion. that was a huge problem w/cameras and batteries of that era. try cleaning the contact with a pencil eraser or some very fine sandpaper, then put a tiny (tiny) amount of alcohol on a q-tip and clean the battery area out of all dust, residue and reinsert the battery. in most cases, that'll do the trick. there really wasn't much to break in those cameras (assuming it hadn't been dropped or abused).
I don't know why using my DSLR to assist came to mind! I was thinking someone on here might know a little about the Camera! Thank you very much!

The camera is in very good condition, and has a couple lenses. With a semester off from I might have a little bit of time to play with it!
Hang on to that puppy and go see Steve Leffler at Precision Photo on 1105 Goss Ave. Call him beforehand to make sure he is there!! 637-4999. Good luck! Now I'm gonna go and dust off my Minolta film camera....
