I'm looking in to buying another Nikon body and I'm closely looking at the D300s or the D700. My first choice would be the D700 but I can't ignore that the D300s would save me some cash.

Is there anyone that might be letting go of one of these bodies around say ... January or February 2010? ... or know of where the best deal can be had?

I thought I would check with the locals to see what buzz can be found before I go straight to retailers.

Thanks in advance.

I will have a D300 in mint condition with box etc... first of the year to sell.
Also remember that a lot of your lenses will not work the same on the full frame D700.
What I really need is something that has lower noise at higher ISO. Can you personally vouch for the D300's performance in that area? I've been to DPReview.com but I'd like to have a shooter I know tell me. To be honest, unless it's a deal that I can't pass up, I'm probably still going to look at the D300s. The crop with my lenses may not bother me much as long as I can shoot at 3200 without batting an eye. haha ... I just can't do that with my D80. Fast glass is helping but now I need to look at a serious upgrade, you know?

Do you know what you're looking to get out of the D300 when you let it go? You wouldn't happen to have the MB-D10 grip for it would you?

Thanks, Ryan

Honestly, the D300 did not cut it in regards to low light for me. That is why I went with D700's.
Don't get me wrong, the 300 is WAY better than the D200 in low light.

I will be selling without grip. Not sure on price yet.
That's pretty much in line with what I've been reading then. That it's a good leap ahead from the D200/D80 but it's not delivering anything close to what the D700 can in the high ISO range.

Still ... for my budget, ability and what I'm using it for, the D700 might be too far a stretch for 2010. I'm still looking at the D300s.

and hey ... happy to hear you're doing okay.

For a D700 I'm seeing prices around $2100 - $2600. Ideally I'd like to get it under $1900 but I doubt that will happen.
