I want to have a way to edit on the go. looking at some HP laptops at Staples. I want to run Lightroom 3 and maybe CS5 too. I really don't want to spend too much. I think I know the answer already but do I have to get the more expensive graphic card model to run these programs?

Lynn - I do the majority of my editing on my laptop running LR3 and CS5 at the same time, usually while having at least a web browser and often other things open.  I got mine at Best Buy and only paid ~$700 for it.  I honestly have no problems with lag or rendering.  It's a core duo 2.13ghz with 6 gigs of ram.  I've been using it for a year or more, no problem.

I find that it's less about the programs and more about the file sizes that I am editing.

My cheap $500 laptop with a duo core and 3gb of ram was doing fine until I bought a camera that shoots 16.2mb raw files, now there is a 12 second lag on almost everything I do in LR3. So I'm shopping around for a quad core with 8mb of ram.

So it's a question of both programs and file sizes. Also I don't have CS5, I have CS3.

Good Luck

Lynn, a bottom of the line macbook will out edit a top dog pc laptop ALL DAY LONG!

And, it will not get outdated as quickly. Spend a few hundred extra upfront and you won't need to worry about it for a few years.

My CS5 and Lightroom 3 is for PC.  Will it cost me to switch over?

If you have the latest versions of the software I think they allow you a one time swap for free.   If you dont have the current version of the software you have to buy the upgrade first.
DO IT LYNN! You won't regret it!
