Uncle Sam was really nice this year so I want to buy a laptop and a flash for my Canon XSi.  Problem is I have no idea what Im looking for!  Ive looked up flashes on B&H and I dont understand the difference between one and the other, how can one flash be $60 and the next be $900? I dont want to spend more than $200 for a flash (is that too cheap?)  As far as laptops go Im just as much clueless.. I need something to run my CS4 smoothly and quickly.  I would like something around the 13 inch to 15 inch size range (price vary) Possibly spend around $800? I could really use your guys help!

I wish I had a smart comment to make.. but im not as funny as you... not
Where's John Adkins on here when you need him??? lol He seems to be a lighting guru, I'm sure he'll have some worthy recommendations ...
you welcome
John shoots Nikon but I bet he can point you in the right direction. Kimberly Ive also found that anytime I have a question on gear like that I can go to flickr and more than likely there is a group dedicated to that specific item and they are usually more than happy to help you.
I have two shoe-mount strobes I would sell, but they're Canon brand, so you would have to switch to a Canon body to take full advantage. :)

But to be honest, whatever brand and model of flash unit you get, make sure you can manually adjust the flash power. You can use any brand of flash and use something like Cybercyncs to trigger it. If you're wanting to do the kind of shooting like Jacob, then a Nikon is your best bet. Watch the used market for a SB-800, is what I would suggest. Much less than $900.

You can do a whole lot also with simple reflectors as well.

Laptops? This is your big chance to make a great career choice and ditch PC's for ever. For just a little more money than you mentioned, you can get a 13" Mac laptop that will last much longer than it's PC counterpart.....with no downtime due to viruses, .dll file screw-ups or any of the other Winblows maladies that constantly trouble that platform.
Macs also have great resale value.

buy one of charles 430 ex's.
What are you selling Charles? I shoot w/ Canon and I'm in need of a flash myself....

Wouldn't you also recommend a flash that swivels? I'm in the same boat as Kimberly ....

Buy BOTH of Charles's 430ex's! Actually I'm wanting to trade them for a 580ex.
