So it seems I was looking at my contacts on flickr, and Ronald Dean, the creator of R-Strap camera strap has something new in the works...

The Double R-Strap...

This looks pretty cool! I love the R2 that I have because it puts no strain on your neck, the Double R-Strap seems to keep that same ability to keep strain off the neck, as well as evenly distribute the weight across both shoulders.

Brilliant! I like this idea. I just bought the R-Strap a month or so ago. It's taken me some getting used to, but overall I really like it. I use my tripod mount to attach it because I didn't like the higher profile of the attachment ring that came with the strap (and it makes it easy to just put on my tripod). The biggest thing for me to get used to was carrying my camera on my other shoulder. I used to carry it on my left. But it does make more sense to have it off my right shoulder so when I grab it, it's ready to go.

I'll be interested to see how people like this double strap. Looks like a pretty good idea! Thanks for sharing the link.
I know a photographer who calls this carrying his gear like this, "el fucking mariachi style" :-)

I like it.
I was wondering about that Alice: the use of a quick release with the R-strap. I use the same QR plates on all my stuff and that was the only reason I didn't go with it......that'll change now I guess.
I figured that I would just use a QR mount on the Rapid strap. That way I could easily exchange camera, lenses, ect from R-strap to tripod, monopod, ect.
The QR plate that came with my tripod has a metal D-ring, rather than the plastic. (I bought a Manfrotto tripod from Murphy's not long ago.) That's what I use to connect the R-strap to. Seems to be secure, but I just bought the strap a couple months ago, so I've not used it for long.

Ted, you may check at Murphy's and see if they have replacement QR plates that have the metal D-ring. You probably already thought of that though.

Aside from the bulkiness of the big metal bracket that came with the R-strap, I didn't like it because if I used it, I'd then have to unscrew it everytime I wanted to put the camera on my tripod. This way, I just pop it right on.
Yeah I have a Manfrotto too, the metal D-ring makes me feel very secure about having my camera dangling!

The only negative I have with the QR plate w/ metal D-ring is where my vertical grip comes into play. It is bulky enough it makes it difficult for my small hands to hold onto it in the vertical position.
These are really cool. Right after I bought the one for Jenn, I showed it to my boss and he had to have one. Then we were discussing how neat it would be to have two, so you could carry a wide and long zoom teles. Of course the single would overlap and give you a little fuss, then they came out with this one. I'll be interested to know if anyone gets this and how they like it.
I have the same problem Jenn, QR plate making vertical grip uncomfortable....But I actually find it easier to just rotate the camera with the regular grip instead. Who cares what it looks like, at least I'm not fumbling for buttons and knobs that are in a slightly different location on the vertical grip.

Well thankfully my grip only has one button to worry about!
The reasoning behind not still shooting with the on camera button is, twisting your hand/wrist after awhile starts bothering your wrist. I spend so much time either on the pc/playing with my camera, it starts making my Tendinitis flare up.

I have been using 2 black rapids criss-crossed with 2 cameras for a a few months now and it really works great. I love it and it is much more comfortable than the two normal straps. I do have to warn everyone though as they have come unlatched and dropped at least one camera before. I have never had a problem but I heard of at least one situation where the connector somehow got twisted and dropped a camera. You can read more about the problem here.

When I use them I actually run part of my strap connectors through the black rapid buckle as a fail safe. It looks a little odd but it does not bother me and I feel safer having the extra protection.

I relaly love it though. Just wanted to make every one aware of the possible dangers. They have introduced a locking ring and I ordered it but I have not received it yet, they said at WPPI that they are having trouble with the manufacture of the locking ring.
Good to know about the dropping issue. Did that happen with a single strap? Can you explain a little more about running your strap connectors through the buckle? I'm a little confused about that part, but it sounds like something I may want to try with my camera just to make sure it's safe.

I'm working on a G-strap. You just need to remove the camera before you sit.
