Your Welcome :-P
When Michelle is shooting with a SB-900 on one camera and hers goes Chernobyl and starts flashing a heat warning, I usually step away at this point. It's untested hardware giving a warning. I heard the SB-900 is nuclear powered, that's why you can't buy them in Iran or North Korea. I'm not going out like that.

There were a lot of people who burned out their SB-800's, so Nikon made a safety catch in the SB-900. It could be Obama's Heat Tsar shutting it down, but that is not proven. Either the flash generates too much heat or it's semi-useless or its semi-useless and it generates too much heat.

Of course, when Michelle's shuts down, she is usually shooting with a SB-900 and a Qflash with an ISO of 400 in a dark room. The shots look great and it's fun watching her scramble to pull her SB-800 off her D300 to put it on her D3, because her D300 is just a lens-holder. If she raised her iso to 800 or 1000, she might not have this problem, but I can't get it her to raise it to find out.
I NEVER HAD AN 800 SHUT DOWN ON ME!
I think it is super mega crappy to have a 900 shut down on you after 10 or so shots in the middle of a session.
I also think t is crappy to only have the 600 and 900 to choose from. I would grab something else, but I use the hell out of the CLS!
I will not buy another fucking 900!
It is a flawed design that costs $500!
Easy there slugger! *hands Ryan a cookie and backs away slowly*
Yeah, I've blasted my SB-800s at full power, shot after shot and never had an issue. I can't believe that the hardware/software on the SB-900 was not tested more thoroughly. I love CLS too that's why I stick to using the Nikon flashes, but boy, I have to say, the power specs on the SB-900 are/were whispering sweet nothings in my ear.
Guess I'll buy a few 600's...
Dumb question, but do anyone elses flashes work with cls?
Metz, sigma etc...

I don't use the CLS very often because the line of sight is always a hindrance.
Nope CLS is Nikon specific ...the other option would be to buy some optical triggers, like Wein peanuts or something. Ryan didn't you get a set of CyberSyncs? They work great except you have to dial your power settings in manually on the flash.

Yeah, I have the CS's.
I really need to be able to dial in the flashes from my camera though.
Optical will not work due to strobes being used etc...
Guess I am buying a 600 tomorrow!

I do not really know what the Nikon CLS system is like but I noticed that quantum has some kind of adapter that says it works with the Nikon CLS system and attached to the side of the Qflash. You can read about it here It is

Sorry you are having such trouble with it but I remembered this little guy and thought it may be something you can use.

Good luck man and I will not even give you crap for using Nikon, my gift to you!!
Looks like I need a Q Flash Trio!
That is a great option as well. You can wirelessly change the power settings of remote Qflashes with the Tio as well. Looks like a great tool.
