Okay so ... here it goes.

I have the following:

* Nikon D80 body with portrait grip

* Nikon D50 body with 3rd party grip

* Nikkor 50mm f/1.8

* Nikkor 18-135mm DX kit lens

* Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 with Nikon mount

* SB800 Speedlight

* all chargers, batteries, cables, etc. specifically for Nikon.

... all in great shape but I want to upgrade my body.

My options without going too far into debt led me to the Nikon D700 or D300s but after seeing Canon's EOS 7D, I'm torn.  More often than not I find that when shopping around and comparing Nikon is always trying to play catch-up with Canon's high ISO noise handling.

I like the Nikon bodies much better ... maybe I'm just used to it.  BUT the idea of HD 1080 video presents me with an opportunity to offer clients more than just still photos.  The D300s seems to come up short in comparison.  My brother in law, Aaron has already made the upgrade to the 7D but already shoots with Canon.  Not too far of a stretch for him.  The prospect is tempting just so we can share lenses and use each others' gear for backup.

Since very recently I've downsized my gear to only three lenses ... IF I'm going to jump track, now would be the time to do it.  I would seek similar lenses in the Canon camp and could probably live without the telephoto zoom for a while if I had to.

Not only am I seeking opinions on this idea but I'm also wondering what sort of trade market value I could get collectively for my Nikon gear to help in the transition ... else I would just buy the body and start from scratch, building on the Canon side of things from this point on.

If not here in this forum, could anyone suggest an outlet for quality used gear (other than ebay) to get this transition under way?

I think if I could get $900 - $1000 for all this Nikon stuff I could feel better about making the switch.  Is that about right?  Too much to expect?  Too less?  You think there's even a market for this gear?  I imagine my demographic would be beginners wanting a good deal for a jump start kit into DSLR.

... or am I just bat-shit crazy?
