If you are a photographer long enough... this WILL HAPPEN TO YOU!!!!
*grasps chest and staggers around like Fred Sanford*

But I seriously need help guys - I have a 1G - CF card that I lost some data on. So far, Terry and Lynn Heick and Rosemary and Jonothan Brown have helped me run deep recovery programs on it and we have only come up with 47 files plus all of the thumbnails!!! I also downloaded the software from Lexar that they sent me and ran it, but didn't recover anything more.

We recovered about 47 full images, and we can see the thumbnails for the remaining 200+ files. But when I click on the thumbnail and bring it up in Adobe, the bottom half of the photo is gray! Why can I see the entire thumbnail and not be able to pull up the entire image???????

I also tried pulling the image up in my Cannon image browser. It will read the bottom half of the photo, but it is all pixelated. (sp?) The top half is clear - bottom half is a bunch of pixels.

My mind is telling me that the data MUST be there, or the Cannon software wouldn't read it.

I have not written over the card or reformatted it. Anyone have any suggestions???? Or, should I contact the Witness Protection Program and ask for a new identity?

Ooof ! If you are using a Mac I recommend using Data Rescue II and/or Disk Warrior software.
I am using a MAC Charles. Can you point me in the direction os this software?
Thanks! I'll try anything!
there are some cards (I'll have to figure out what brand) that cannot be recovered. The company's response (it was a manufacturing error) was basically oh well. Let me get on my forum and see for you.
the recalled cards are the lexar 1G
can call me at 468-4531 and I can explain
GRRRRREEEAAAAT! That is exactly what I have!
Don't give up until you try Data Rescue II and/or Disk Warrior. Both are available at many places online. I have had good results with each. If costs are prohibitive message me and I'll see what I can do.
Wanna hear the real kicker Sara? The problem only occurs with Canon cameras and the Lexar cards, some firmware thing actually. They will replace it once you get your info off of it. This info comes from the NILMDTS forum to which I belong.
Just wanted to say yikes. Hope you get it worked out...
Thanks for the info on that Charles! Cost is not an issue, so I am off to search for the software today. I sincerely appreciate your advise.
And it really isn't a huge deal (I hope *crosses fingers*). I had a second shooter with me that day, so we have his angle plus what we recovered from mine.
But I refuse to give up! I haven't exhausted all of my resources yet dangitt! LOL!
Oh and Court - I may call you come Monday to get the lowdown. I have talked to Lexar a few times and they did not mention one thing about a problem. Go figure. So I would definitely like some background on the issue.
Lexar's newest software, Image Rescue 3, can be found here: http://www.lexar.com/software/image_rescue3.html">

It's recovered files for me from a formatted card, but not overwritten. I understand you've not overwritten. Good Luck.
