Hey everyone, I've lived in Louisville now for 5 years, but I really don't "know" Louisville. I know the basic places to shoot, but I am looking for some fun creative places to shoot e-sessions or places to stop with B&G's..Any help would be appreciated.
I saw a couple pictures that had graffiti and would LOVE to know where those walls are...I love color, water, old rustic places, etc...
Thanks!!

Hey Candi!

I'll let them speak for themselves, but I think the 2 graffiti spots I've seen on here are from either the Mellwood AEC or the abandoned train station down at the end of Baxter. Mellwood is very easily accessible--you've probably been there for a wedding reception--Ryan and I have our little space there. There is graffiti both behind the building and on the front/side.

The train station is a little more difficult to get to--the e couple would have to be pretty adventurous :) You have to find an unobtrusive place to park and creep by a partially blocked door to get up there. Others could probably tell you better--I haven't been there in a few years.

I've also got some great spots picked out downtown with rustic walls and color--we should go exploring one day when the weather is nice! I'll post some pics from some sessions around there later tonight (since I'm not getting any work done today anyway :)
The Baxter Ave Train Station is friggin fantastic. However, it is kind of scary to climb those stairs - and the last shoot I did there was visited by a couple of crack heads. So.. it may not be the best for what you are looking for.

Have you tried anything in Smoketown or elsewhere? There are a few spots off of Preston St. around Breckinridge St. that hare ideal. However the neighborhood could be re-named "scary-town"... so again, maybe not so grand.

Mellwood is a location that has been recommended to me for graf. It may be overdone, who knows. Some say the Baxter Ave location is a bit overdone as well (I for one am doing a series there, I even call it my "studio"). I would say, drive up and down the alleys off Bardstown Road and find a few key locations. The graf tends to be relatively fresh during the spring and summer, because it comes down pretty quick, but there is some seriously creative work. Just check out the side of Karma Cafe - an unfinished mural that has lines and squiggles galore.
The alleys behind the buildings on Bardstown Road (in the Highlands) will have your graffiti and rustic charm. Cherokee Park is always a great place to shoot. It has water, trees, fields, bridges, sculpture. hills, and flowers.
Thanks for the replies..I would love to go explore one day soon!!
I have also had bad experiences on the baxter ave train location.. but the pictures that I've taken there were worth it! The stairs are scary, and the homeless people were scarier.. take heed, and pepper spray if you go! LOL!! I love the Alley behind Petrus, and the 'pink wall' on market street, just passed O'Mally's corner.. also the cave hill cemetary makes an awesome background..and if you go when it's closed, the front gates are quite nice as well :0)

Happy hunting

I noticed the others mention the Baxter Ave Train Station, and I admit it's amazing up there, but it may not be worth it because I was almost arrested for trespassing when my ex and I went there for the first time. There were two bums there as well, one of which was surprisingly nice, but regardless as we left a cop drove right by and pulled us over. Luckily I got away with claiming it was for art class at school (even though I don't go anymore) and I had shown him that all I took were pictures of my ex, myself, and the graffiti itself. With no proof of us tagging he simply let us off with a warning but also told me if I'm caught there again, I'll be fined (since he recorded my name) x_x;

I much prefer the alleyways by Tyler Park anyway. Oh and the skatepark is great, but that's my personal opinion; some people hate skateboarding.
Tagging is spray painting
